BIG SPRING, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - The Pathway Academy hosted its ribbon cutting ceremony for the new school on East 12th Street on Tuesday.

School officials said the goal is to have smaller class sized and provide specialized education for kids who struggle in traditional learning environments.

"I think that what you'll see over the course of the next few years is that we're going to be able to build opportunities for kids that they didn't think that they had in Big Spring," said Tommy Moore, Director of Business and Finance with the Academy.

"Deeply humbled that I get the opportunity to do it. I was one of those kids who really didn't see a future for myself so the fact that I am now carving out pathways to futures for other students or for students in the Howard County area, I'm completely humbled by the opportunity to do so," said Superintendent Dr. Thaddeus McCalister.

The Pathway Academy will open in August 2025. Staff is still recruiting students and teachers, as well as filing for grants to fund the school.
