Pedestrian dies after being struck while trying to cross SR-76 in Oceanside

A 46-year-old man walking across state Route 76 in Oceanside was struck and killed by a vehicle late Sunday, police said.

The collision occurred around 11:50 p.m. near the intersection of SR-76 and Benet Road, police said.

A driver in a Toyota Corolla heading east on the freeway struck the pedestrian as he was crossing from south to north, just east of the intersection, police said.

The driver remained on scene and was cooperating with law enforcement. Police said the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The name of the person who died was not released pending notification of next of kin.
