PHILIPSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) – The Louis Jenkins VFW Post 3450 is set to get a new patriotic mural done by Artist Pamela Etters.
According to former Philipsburg State Representative Lynn Herman, this project has been in talks for a while, but funding presented an issue. He eventually applied for a tourism grant from the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau and the VFW received $5,000 to get the job done.
"Hundreds of people are going to see it," Jenkins said.
While the mural isn't ready yet, attendees still got a chance to add a touch of their own. Part of the mural is going to be a Purple Heart medal, so the veterans in attendance could take a moment to help paint it in. The full mural will include several branches of the military being represented.
Etters said it's "such an honor" to be able to do this for the community, but she does it for someone else as well.
"My father was a Vietnam veteran, and he passed away ten years ago," Etters said. "It does mean a lot to me to honor veterans."
There is not an exact date set for the mural's unveiling, but Etters said she hopes to have it done by the end of the summer.
