BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Bedford County couple is facing felony charges after several puppies died from parvo, a bearded dragon lizard was found with mold growing on it and multiple rooms of their home were covered in feces and mold.
Randy Bower, 39, and Melissa Bower, 36, are both facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and endangering the welfare of children after police were called to their home on Cortland Drive in New Paris, according to a criminal complaint. On July 16, Bedford troopers received a tip that the Bowers were selling puppies that were dying and that they possibly had other dead animals.
On that date, troopers attempted to make contact with the Bowers by going to their home. Police did not get a response but did observe a Golden Retriever dog that was standing in a room with trash, toys and furniture overturned. They also knocked on a side door and noted another dog, a German Shepard, was also inside the home. Troopers returned on July 20 to try to speak with the Bowers.
Police noted that while they were on the front porch there was a"putrid smell emanating from an unknown location of a decaying animal." Troopers said they then went to the side entrance of the home and found three black garbage bags which again smelled like decaying animals, according to the complaint.
