Port Authority intensify efforts against toll evaders, issuing fines, arrests

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The Port Authority Police Department is cracking down on toll evaders, issuing fines and making arrests at a record pace.

So far this year, Port Authority police have issued more than 48 hundred summonses, totaling more than $4 million in unpaid tolls and fees.

In the first six months of 2024, 63 drivers were accused of having fake plates and theft of service. That's a 54% increase in arrests compared to the same period last year.

In May, the MTA continued to crack down on toll evaders and ghost vehicles in New York City and announced that over 50 vehicles were seized.
