Price man killed by police had allegedly brandished weapon in confrontation

PRICE, Utah (ABC4) — The Price man who was shot and killed by multiple officers last week allegedly brandished a weapon against law enforcement, according to police.

Patrick Frank Whitten, 31, of Price, was shot and killed on Tuesday, July 30, by officers who were responding to a domestic violence situation. According to the Department of Public Safety, officers had learned Whitten was potentially armed when they arrived on the scene.

The incident happened just after 11:30 p.m. Whitten had reportedly already left the home by the time officers arrived, but he was found outside nearby a short time later.

"When officers confronted him, he brandished a weapon," The Department of Public Safety said in a press release. "In response to this threat, officers from multiple agencies fired. The 31-year-old male sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital after being treated at the scene."
