FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. – Recent conditions at Lake Conway have led to dead fish lining the outer edges of the lake.
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission officials said competition for oxygen amid lower water levels caused by the renovation of Lake Conway and high temperatures have led to hundreds of dead fish appearing in the lake.
Randy Zellers, assistant chief of communications at the AGFC, said this is inevitable.
"This is unsightly, I do understand that, but this is a part of that process to make the lake better in the long run,” Zellers said.
Jimmy Larker said he grew up visiting the lake from time to time. Having not seen the lake during the renovation, he was shocked at what it's become.
"It is a waste, a lot of dead fish,” Larker said. “But I mean, what can you do?"
Fishing limits have been lifted during the renovation process, with hopes to keep the number of wasted fish to a minimum.
