Record heat Tuesday afternoon with pop-up storms east of I-15

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- Happy Tuesday, Utah! Our Tuesday will likely be the hottest day of this week.

Heat alerts remain in effect for most of the Beehive state through Tuesday night. Record highs are expected this afternoon with a potential new record high in Salt Lake City of 103 degrees -- the current record is 102 degrees from 2019.

Utah temperatures continue to climb with relief in sight

We may see some very slight relief across the region from Wednesday through Friday, but it will still be hot!

On Wednesday, high pressure will continue to spread across the southwest, slightly lowering temperatures and keeping more of the region dry through Thursday.

Some showers and thunderstorms may still pop up in southern Utah due to lingering moisture for afternoon storms. However, significant moisture won't return until the weekend when southwest flow will transport monsoonal moisture into the region once again. More scattered to isolated thunderstorms are expected for the weekend with cooling temperatures statewide.
