MILWAUKEE (NEXSTAR) - After surviving the attempt on his life Saturday former president Donald Trump has arrived in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention and he says the event will go ahead according to plan.
The Secret Service says it’s confident the convention will be safe.
“We are fully prepared and have a comprehensive security plan in place and we’re ready to go,” said Audrey Gibson-Cicchino Secret Service RNC Coordinator.
Secret Service officials say they’re ready for the RNC while at the same time they are refusing to answer questions about Saturday’s assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
Thousands of Republican delegates and party officials are in Milwaukee for the convention which is now overshadowed by Saturday’s shooting.
“We cannot. We must not go down this road in America,” said President Joe Biden.

“In America, we resolve our differences at the ballot box. You know, that's how we do it at the ballot box. Not with bullets,” said Biden.
Tight security plans are now under even more scrutiny after Saturday’s lapse.
Much of downtown Milwaukee is shut down with multiple layers of security in place for anyone hoping to get close to the event.
