Rocky Mountain VA hospital resuming surgeries after 'residue' found on equipment

DENVER (KDVR) — The Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Aurora announced it will resume full surgical operations on Monday after halting surgeries that required on-site steam sterilization on May 3.

The Rocky Mountain VA stated in a release that it had a four-week phased soft start to make sure the sterilized surgical equipment was safe for use. In total, 608 procedures were postponed or referred to community hospitals while the VA's surgeries were on hold.

The medical center said it is working with veterans to ensure all procedures are rescheduled.
