SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The San Diego Rescue Mission organized a Symposium of Mayors from all 18 cities across San Diego County to work together to address homelessness.
“We have similar problems and we all need to know how we can help each other and how we can be more cohesive,” said Ryan Keim, City of Oceanside Deputy Mayor.
Each mayor's city faces unique challenges, but they agree on a few main issues.
“It has become okay in our society for people to be homeless,” said National City Mayor Ron Morrison.
“We have to enforce our quality-of-life laws. It’s not acceptable for us to have people using drugs, shooting up heroin on the street,” said Deputy Mayor Keim.
“I have watched them pick up a tent and a dozen or more rats run out from underneath it. They’re sleeping with rats,” said Mayor Morrison.
