San Diego makes list of best US road trip destinations

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Summer is the season of road trips.

Whether it's long drives or nearby destinations, there are many places to explore while on the road.

Gunther Mitsubishi, a car dealership in Coconut Creek, Florida, recently surveyed 3,000 families asking them to name the ultimate family-friendly road trips they desire to experience.

Los Angeles to San Diego ranks No. 10 on the list.

• Travelers can start in Los Angeles, visiting sites like the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory, famous movie studios.
• They can then head down the Pacific Coast Highway and visit beaches like Long Beach, Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach.
• When you get to the San Diego area, there are must-see attractions like the San Diego Zoo, the USS Midway Museum, Balboa Park and the Hotel Del Coronado.

Sacramento to Lake Tahoe also made the top ten for California at No. 7.
