School districts across the RGV cancel classes Monday due to severe weather

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — School districts across the Rio Grande Valley have announced closures for Monday, May 1 due to Friday's severe weather.

Sharyland ISD is among the districts confirming cancelled classes.

Teachers and staff will continue to have a regular workday on Monday, however students will have a holiday and do not need to make up for the missed school day.

Storm cleanup begins in Hidalgo County

The district says classes will resume Tuesday, May 2.

La Joya ISD has also cancelled classes for May 1. Like Sharyland ISD, La Joya faculty will continue their regular workday.

La Joya ISD officials say any STARR and EOC testing that was taking place on Tuesday, May 2 will be rescheduled for Wednesday, May 3.

Vanguard Academy announced the cancelation of their schools and offices, and will resume on Tuesday, May 2.

The academy announced Rembrandt Secondary and Mozart Secondary high schools will remain on Monday, May 1 for students taking AP exams.
