WILLARD, Utah (ABC4) -- The search continues for a 51-year-old man who went missing following a swimming incident at Willard Bay State Park Saturday evening.
Authorities said they received a call regarding the incident around 8:50 p.m. on Aug. 3.
According to a press release from the Utah Division of State Parks, Robert Mittendorf, who is from Weber County, was swimming with his son near their boat when a sudden storm came through the area. The two were reportedly separated from their boat, but Mittendorf's son managed to swim back and tried to grab a life jacket for his father.
The release said Mittendorf went underwater and did not resurface.
Utah State Parks law enforcement rangers, Willard City Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Division of Outdoor Recreation rangers, Utah Dept of Public Safety, and Box Elder and Weber Couty Search and Rescue teams are assisting on the search operation, which now spans over a mile-wide area.
