SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- U.S. Senator Mike Rounds says he's not surprised that former President Trump picked J.D. Vance as his running mate.
Both Rounds and Vance serve on the Senate Banking Committee. Rounds says Vance brings a lot to the top of the ticket and represents a new generation of leadership within the Republican Party.
"He's very articulate. He has a great background that he will share, comes from very humble beginnings. I think he'll be the right guy to serve with President Trump in the White House and he'll be a good team member for the president."
Rounds says he hopes Trump addresses economic issues and shows a willingness to respect opposing viewpoints when he speaks at the Republican National Convention Thursday night.
CBS News coverage of the convention airs at 9 p.m. central time on KELOLAND TV.
