SFPD investigating infant death after found at recycling center

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Authorities in Sioux Falls are investigating an infant death after staff at a recycling center in Sioux Falls discovered what police called “a full-term infant” at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday. 

According to Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens, police were called to a recycling center for a death investigation in the 300 block of 50th Street North.  

“There was a baby that was found at the recycling center,” Clemens said. 

Clemens said police aren’t sure how the infant ended up there and have started an investigation.  

Clemens said an age hasn’t been determined and described the baby as “a full-term infant.” 

Police aren’t sure how long the baby had been at the recycling center. 

“We just don’t have answers at this point of time,” Clemens said. “It may take a long time before we come up with anything.”
