SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Six people were rescued by Cal Fire San Diego crews Sunday afternoon from Three Sisters Falls trail, authorities said.

Four of the hikers who were in a group together first alerted emergency responders to respond to the trail in northeastern San Diego County, which was closed at the time of the incident due to excessive heat.

According to Cal Fire, the agency's Copter 9 responded to the trail and airlifted the four young adults out of the area. The aerial rescue team then noticed two other hikers who also appeared to be in distress, airlifting them out as well.

Of the six hikers, four were transported to the hospital with unidentified heat-related illnesses. Their current conditions are not known at this time.
