Some security cameras on MTA buses, trains are not working; audit finds

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A new audit of the MTA by the New York State Comptroller found a number of security cameras on buses and trains are not working and there are significant delays in fixing equipment.

The audit flagged 141 work orders submitted between September 2019 and July 2022 that took as much as two years beyond the required time frame to complete.

The MTA's response: Delays were caused by legitimate reasons, such as ongoing construction, staffing, and a lack of needed parts.

MTA leaders also responded that the agency has spent $650 million on security camera projects since 2002.
