St. Louis Public Schools Superintendent taking 'leave of absence', interim named

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Keisha Scarlett to be replaced as she goes on a "temporary leave of absence," according to the St. Louis City Board of Education.

The Board of Education has since approved Deputy Superintendent Dr. Millicent Borishade as the acting superintendent in Scarlett's absence.

Millicent Borishade, who served as Scarlett's second-in-command, was introduced on Friday to the SLPS staff as the interim superintendent. The school board did not elaborate on Scarlett's temporary absence.

The news comes in the wake of many questions about the financial dealings that have been made in the district under Scarlett.

Scarlett, 50, originally replaced Kelvin Adams a year ago after he retired in December 2022, following 14 years of leading the district.
