ALBANY, Ind. (WISH) — Search crews on Saturday recovered the body of an 18-year-old from the Mississinewa River, concluding a search that began Wednesday, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said.
Severe weather has been connected to six deaths this week in Indiana, said Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
The river search for Matthew Morey started Wednesday evening in Delaware County after reports of four people in the flooded river near County Road 450 East and Gregory Road, halfway between the towns of Albany and Eaton.
Morey, a Delta High School graduate who planned to attend Purdue University, disappeared Wednesday evening after he and three others entered the river. While the other three individuals reached safety, Morey was swept away. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office coordinated a search using boats, drones, aircraft and dogs, though high water and swift currents slowed the effort.
