LONE PEAK, Utah (ABC4) -- A 17-year-old was taken to the University of Utah Burn Center early Thursday morning after he crashed his vehicle, causing it to burst into flames while he became trapped inside, according to Lone Peak Fire.
Shortly after midnight on Aug. 8, a Lone Peak Police officer had just checked off duty and was driving home when he came across a vehicle going "well above the speed limit," heading west on Canal Blvd. in Highland, authorities said. The officer turned on his emergency lights and made a U-turn to attempt a traffic stop.
The vehicle proceeded to accelerate through a red light on Alpine Hwy. and "failed to navigate the bend in the road," Lone Peak Police said. The vehicle reportedly went off the road and crashed into a tree at Windsor Meadows Park.
