ST. LOUIS - A teenager appeared in federal court on Monday and admitted to committing a pair of carjackings within a year of each other in St. Louis.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney's Office of Eastern Missouri say Roman D. Davis, 19, pleaded guilty to committing two counts of carjacking, two counts of brandishing, and possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a violent crime.
Davis told the court he stole a Mazda 3 at gunpoint in 2021 and, over a year later, stole a Mercedes SUV.
Prosecutors say on Nov. 7, 2021, Davis and two others were walking past an alleyway and spotted an older man unloading his 2006 Mazda 3. They decided to carjack the man.
Davis and another suspect, Montrell Jackson, 20, were armed. Davis used a stolen handgun to demand the victim's keys. After obtaining the Mazda, they sped off down the alleyway in the stolen car.
It was only hours later that St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department cameras spotted the stolen Mazda. The St. Louis police and Hazelwood Police Department pursued the vehicle in a chase and Davis eventually crashed the Mazda.
Davis hid under a semitrailer near the crash but he was found and arrested.
