Elkhart, Ind. (WISH) — A 17-year-old has been taken into custody at the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center after a shooting Monday evening.

According to a release by Elkhart Police Department, officers found the 17-year-old boy with gunshot wounds inside an apartment building near the intersection of Prairie Street and Middlebury Street.

While medics transposed him to the hospital, officers learned that a second male, an 18-year-old, arrived at the same hospital with gunshot wounds in connection with the incident.

Elkhart police have not shared the name of the suspect since he is a juvenile.

Officers believe this was an isolated incident and the investigation remains active.
