Thunderstorms Monday will slow, not stop the arrival of dangerous heat

ST. LOUIS - A complex of thunderstorms is dropping in from the north early Monday morning.

A few storms may be strong to severe, bringing strong winds and hail along with heavy downpours. The bulk of the storms are expected along and north of I-70, weakening some as they move more southeast.

This storm chance should end around mid-morning Monday. A few additional spot showers will be possible, mainly in Illinois, in the afternoon.

Morning clouds and rain will likely curb the big warm-up a bit, but the big weather headline this week is the dangerous heat that's building and the high humidity.

Top temperatures Tuesday through Thursday are expected to be in the upper 90s, with peak afternoon heat indices of 105–110. A spot storm on Tuesday would only temporarily cool down the spot where it forms.
