MARKHAM, Ontario (WISH) — The NTT IndyCar Series’ Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham has hit a major roadblock. With track work unfinished, INDYCAR postponed Friday’s opening practice to Saturday morning, delaying the series’ first-ever race in the Toronto suburb.
Drivers were set to be on course Friday for Practice 1 at 3:05 p.m. ET, but all sessions have shifted to Saturday. IndyCar announced the updated schedule.
- Practice 1: 10–11:30 a.m. ET
- Practice 2: 2:30–4 p.m. ET
- Qualifying: 6:30–7 p.m. ET and 7–8 p.m. ET
“INDYCAR is incredibly disappointed that our promoter was not able to complete the track build on time, despite significant support from our team on site,” INDYCAR President J. Douglas Boles said. “Ontario has always been a magnificent market for our sport and the number of spectators that attended today is a shining example of that. New events can always pose logistical challenges and we join in the frustration of our loyal fans and apologize.”
Concerns over track conditions surfaced Thursday when teams arrived. The planned track walk was pushed to Friday morning, followed by the decision to postpone practice.
