INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced plans to pay off the mortgage on the home of Matthew T. Snook, a Delaware State Police corporal who was shot and killed while working an overtime assignment just days before Christmas.
On Dec. 23, Snook, 34, was fatally wounded while stationed at a Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles office south of Wilmington. Authorities said Snook was shot and, in his final moments, pushed a DMV employee out of harm’s way before being struck a second time.
He is survived by his wife and their 1-year-old daughter.
Tunnel to Towers Foundation officials say they aim to have the family’s mortgage paid off by New Year’s Day.
The Snook family’s home will be the first of 343 mortgage-free homes the foundation plans to deliver in 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and honoring the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department who were killed that day.
Those homes will be provided through the foundation’s Fallen First Responder Home Program, Smart Home Program, and Gold Star Family Home Program, which support families of fallen first responders and military service members, as well as catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
