EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) – Two men were arrested Thursday related to a fatal shooting of a 74-year-old in Tompkins Square Park earlier this month.
Angel Sardina, of Manhattan, and Rafael Macias, of the Bronx, both face murder and attempted murder charges related to the July 12 shooting in the park on Avenue A, according to the NYPD.
The two stand accused of killing a 74-year-old and injuring a 44-year-old in the shooting that took place just before 10 a.m., police said.
Sources told PIX11 News the men were targeted in a possible drug-related dispute.
Surveillance camera video from near the shooting shows people running from the area. After the shooting, one of the victims stumbled into a nearby deli, where he collapsed, sources said. The store workers tried to help him before calling 911.
