UGM needs more staff to open new family center

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- An organization helping families in need has completed a major renovation project, but now needs more employees.

The third floor of the Union Gospel Mission is where a pipe burst the day after Christmas in 2022, flooding the women's center and thrift store below. Nineteen months later, level three is now known as a safe place for families.

"We started a family center for moms with boys that are 12-years old and older," Union Gospel Mission CEO Eric Weber said.

The space includes nine bedrooms, a kitchenette and laundry facilities. Weber says the space will allow families to heal together, not apart.

"They'll get counseling, they'll get mentorship, they'll get programs, they will get all the things they need to get better and stable," Weber said.

When Weber joined the Union Gospel Mission in 2019, the third floor was stacked to the ceiling with junk, everything from fishing poles and skis to trampolines.
