NEW YORK (PIX11) – Crews are still working Thursday morning to clean up after a steam pipe leak sent asbestos-containing debris into the air, according to New York City Emergency Management.
The leak happened near Park Avenue between East 69th and 70th streets on Wednesday.
Residents are still advised to stay indoors and close their windows, NYCEM Executive Director Aries Dela Cruz said.
The cleanup is expected to be completed by noon. Street closures are also in effect, Dela Cruz wrote on X.
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection is monitoring the air quality, NYCEM told PIX11 News.
