HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) is scheduled to speak at the 2024 Republican National Convention tonight.
Before taking the stage, De La Cruz spoke with ValleyCentral to give a sneak peak at her talking points and what the platform means to her.
She touched on Saturday's assassination attempt on former presidents Donald J. Trump stating that type of political violence has no place in America.
De La Cruz will speak at day three of the RNC tonight to represent Texas in the nomination of Trump as the 47th President of the United States.
She said Trump's presence on day one of the convention excited many republicans who were proud to see him healthy and ready to serve.
"There was a feverish excitement to have him there alive and well and he was positive," De La Cruz said. "He is bringing the Republican party together."
She said her own security has been amped up along with many members of congress as they prepared for their meeting in Milwaukee.
"They wanted us to have peace of mind knowing that we were coming to a peaceful event, a secure event were everyone would be safe," she said.
De La Cruz said she aims to use her platform at the RNC to represent South Texas.
