Vermillion wastewater: Temporarily fixed

VERMILLION S.D. (KELO) -- The Vermillion Wastewater Treatment has been temporarily fixed, according to a news release.

A temporary suspension bridge to support a temporary main connecting the sanitary sewer system to the wastewater treatment facility was completed at 7 p.m. on Friday. The city said in the release the city is no longer discharging into the Vermillion River.

Vermillion says there’s progress on wastewater issue

The project for a temporary fix took just a little over two weeks to complete. Vermillion Mayor Jon Coles said earlier this month that the city was discharging about 1.2 million gallons of sewage into the Vermillion River per day.

Gov. Noem toured the facilities and surveyed the damage in the early stages of the river dropping.
