LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An Arkansas nonprofit dedicated to supporting military personnel, veterans, and their families launched new platform aimed at combatting the opioid crisis.
The platform is called Called2Duty and its mission is to combat the opioid crisis by providing education and empowerment at the city, county and state levels.
A vital aspect of this initiative is the Naloxone training program, which will be available in all 75 counties of Arkansas to help save lives by reversing opioid overdoses.
When veterans return home from combat, some go down a dark road of addiction. Michael Springer is Called2Duty's Veteran Peer Support Specialist and said he turned to meth and dealt with "16 years of active addiction, incarceration, homelessness and just hopelessness."
Springer fought in Iraq and said he suffered from survivors' guilt after a friend of his was killed. Springer said he's found his mission again with helping other veterans out of the darkness with Called2Duty.
