BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — With the Summer Games beginning today, the entire Valley is rallying behind local swimmer Shaine Casas.

The watch party is underway Friday at Parry’s Pizzeria & Taphouse in Brownsville. Monica Rosales is the Aquatic Center Coordinator for Brownsville Independent School District, and is hosting the watch party.

She says Casas grew up swimming at the district’s pools.

“This young man has made the Olympic team, which is very difficult," Rosales said. "There are like 1,000 kids per event, and he made the top two, which is amazing.”

Parry’s operator Orlando Gonzalez says 20% of the proceeds from Parry’s are going toward Shaine Casa’s family.

He notes the effort to help fund the Casas family stay in Paris known as “the Shane Train."

"We’re a big part of just a really supportive community," Gonzalez said. "We’ve done a lot of charities throughout Brownsville, throughout the Valley, but we saw the Shane Train foundation and really, really wanted to help out and actually watch the family. Go watch Shane!”

Families at the watch party say they’ll be watching the games in Paris all week. The promo at Parry’s, located by Sunrise Mall will be going on until they close at midnight.
