'We are pleased' AG Henry comments on Google antitrust, monopoly ruling

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) -- After a Federal Court deemed Google a "monopolist" that has unlawful search engine practices, Attorney General Michelle Henry said she is "pleased."

The U.S. District Court of Columbia ruled in United States v. Google that the company violated antitrust law by spending billions of dollars to create an "illegal monopoly." The ruling comes as a major decision in a list of cases taking on alleged monopolies against Big Tech in the U.S.

“Google has carved out a mega online presence that influences users to view and use their products by thwarting competition from rival search engines through exclusive agreements making Google the default search engine on popular devices and browsers. By design and definition, that is a monopoly," Henry said. “We are pleased with the federal court’s finding that those practices exist and are harmful to consumers. We will continue, with our state and federal partners, to pursue litigation that offers a more level playing field and consumers with a full range of options.”
