WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Boys and Girls Club of Weslaco hosted a back-to-school bash to celebrate the upcoming school year.
The event was held on Monday at 300 N. Airport Drive, where students were offered free school supplies, resources and free haircuts.
Mary Gallardo, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club in Weslaco, told ValleyCentral, it is important to help the community right now due to the cost of school supplies being sky-high.
"We're here to help the community out as much as we can," Gallardo said. "As a team, we come together and we help out our community and kids that come to the club."
Gallardo said seeing the children get excited to pick out their backpacks and supplies is rewarding. She added, that PUMA has provided tennis shoes for children during the event.
