CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — More mosquito samples collected from College Township, Ferguson Township, and State College Borough have tested positive for West Nile Virus and now residents are being asked to make sure their yards are clean.
The first case popped up roughly two weeks ago, but even more samples has tested positive for the virus.
The Centre County Board of Commissioners is recommending that residents take preemptive measures by inspecting their yards, taking a few minutes to clean up, reducing yard clutter and dumping out any sources of stagnant water.
Additional mosquito surveillance, sampling, and larval control are being performed as necessary by the Centre County Mosquito Disease Control Program staff.
Mosquitos most often come lay eggs in artificial containers, which include things as small as flower vases to as large as swimming pools.
