What we know about the suspected Trump rally shooter

(NewsNation) — Following a shooting Saturday at a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, law enforcement sources say they’re investigating the attack as an attempted assassination.

The attack, by a shooter who law enforcement officials say was then killed by the Secret Service, was the first attempt to assassinate a president or presidential candidate since former President Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley Jr. in 1981.

A local prosecutor said the suspected gunman and at least one rally attendee were killed.

Lawmakers react after shooting at Trump rally

The president, according to Trump campaign officials, is "fine."

Two officials who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to discuss the investigation said the shooter was not an attendee at the rally and was killed by U.S. Secret Service agents.
