SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The most anticipated annual meteor shower, the Perseids, will peak this weekend, expected to send streaks of light and color across Earth's atmosphere.
According to NASA, the meteor shower, which began in July, can best be seen in the Northern Hemisphere just before dawn.
Meteors in the Perseids come from debris left behind by the 109P/Swift-Tuttle comet. During the meteor shower, fireballs tend to last longer than the average meteor streak due to larger cometary material. They also tend to be brighter and larger, NASA says on its website.
