SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- A small wildfire continues to burn among the sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park.
The Kolob Terrace Fire, which was reportedly sparked by lightning on Wednesday, has scorched 24 acres in Hop Valley, located in the northwestern section of Zion, the National Park Service said.
Aerial images posted by the park service showed smoke rising from burning trees and shrubs along a steep, rocky outcropping.
In an update Friday, officials said that 40 wildland firefighters are working to battle the blaze. No information was given as to how much of the fire’s perimeter was contained.
Due to the fire, the Hop Valley Trail remains closed, park officials said. However, the Kolob Terrace road is open.
