OAKLAND, California (KMID/KPEJ) - Former Midland RockHound Jacob Wilson exited a near-flawless major league debut in the third inning with an apparent hamstring injury. Wilson was seen hobbling home after rounding third base in Oakland's Friday night showdown with the Los Angeles Angels.
Wilson recorded a hit in his first major league at-bat and was driven in by fellow former RockHound (2023) Lawrence Butler.
After the injury, Wilson was seen drinking fluids and stretching his hamstring. He attempted to return to the field on defense, but the Athletics pulled him from the lineup.
Wilson's debut had a storybook start, recording a put-out on a routine ground ball on his very first defensive play in the big leagues. He also recorded a double-play.
Wilson began his season with the Midland RockHounds before being promoted to Triple-A after six weeks. During the All-Star break, Oakland called Wilson up to the major leagues.
Wilson played 72 games in the minor leagues and posted a career .401 batting average in 284 at-bats.
