Window narrows for negotiating property tax relief with Colorado lawmakers

DENVER (KDVR) — After months of negotiations on property tax proposals at the Colorado Capitol and on the statewide ballot, leaders on both sides of the issue are still at odds on the best way to move forward.

Supporters of the ballot initiatives and lawmakers are negotiating the details of a compromise, but folks backing the ballot proposals say lawmakers have to come back to work for them to reach a deal.

"We are moving forward with our measures at this point, but I think there is no doubt: If legislators came together and said we want to do this right now, they have the time to do it. But again, that window is narrowing," said Michael Fields, a FOX31 political analyst and the president of conservative think tank Advance Colorado.

Advance Colorado is backing the two property tax measures on the upcoming November ballot.
