Witherspoon Presbyterian Church celebrates Kwanzaa, honoring African heritage and unity

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Witherspoon Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, one of the oldest African American Presbyterian churches in the United States, will host a Kwanzaa celebration on Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event anticipates more than 600 attendees and will feature various cultural activities, including a fashion show and performances.

Having served the community for nearly 200 years, Witherspoon Presbyterian Church serves as a beacon of hope and resilience. Kwanzaa, celebrated from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, is a cultural holiday emphasizing community, family and the celebration of African heritage. Rev. Dr. Winterbourne Harrison-Jones, Senior Pastor of Witherspoon, emphasized the importance of this event in transforming community relationships.
