Working hard in Midland: Reports show Midland having the lowest unemployment rate in Texas

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The City of Midland announced that the Midland metropolitan area had the lowest unemployment rates in the state of Texas for May 2024, according to the Texas Workforce Commission reports.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Midland had the lowest unemployment rate of 2.4% during May 2024 in Texas, followed by Amarillo (2.8%) and College Station-Bryan (3.0%).

The TWC also reported that Midland had its civilian labor force increase by nearly 2,000 compared to May 2023. “More than 200,000 people have joined the Texas workforce since May 2023, and we continue to lead the nation in year-over-year growth,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel in a press release.

The reports showed that the city of Midland had a civilian labor force growth rate of 1.57%, with a total of 115,800 during the month of May, compared to the previous year in May 2023, when the number was 114,000.

The Texas Workforce Commission also released the report for Odessa, which showed that the jobless rate was 3.2% (The average jobless rate in Texas is 3.8%).
