INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An SUV carrying at least two teenage boys fled a traffic stop and crashed Tuesday night on East 38th Street, leaving at least two people injured, police said.
The SUV had been stolen, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department told News 8 on Wednesday.
Marion County’s computer-aided dispatch system said police were involved in a traffic stop just before 10 p.m. Tuesday at East 38th Street and Fall Creek Parkway North Drive, an intersection that sits just outside the southeast corner of the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a notification that officers did not pursue the vehicle prior to its crash.
The crash, involving only the SUV, happened about 5 minutes later a few blocks east, near the intersection of East 38th Street and College Avenue.
According to a Tuesday email notification from Field Lt. Gregory Scott of IMPD, emergency responders took two people from the crash scene to a hospital, and one person was listed in critical condition, while the second person was stable and being treated for minor injuries.
A redacted police report, shared in the days after the crash, listed three suspects but did not give their names. One suspect was 14, and another was 15. The report listed the other suspect’s age as “00.” The report also named a parent/guardian from Gary.
