4 Chair Exercises That Rebuild Hip Strength Faster Than Squats After 55

A sturdy chair can make training your primary hip muscles simple and easy to repeat at home. It gives you support, a clear target, and a comfortable setup to build strength in the muscles around your hips.

Traditional squats are valuable and have a functional place in your workouts. But if time is short, or you need a creative at-home workout, chair exercises offer a solid way to target your hips. You can train the outer hips, glutes, hip flexors, and core from positions that feel steady and familiar. That gives each rep a clear purpose while keeping the workout approachable.

In coaching, I use chair-based movements when I want clients to feel the right muscles working quickly. These four exercises build hip strength through seated band work, supported squats, a strong posterior-chain hold, and marching control.
