INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IMPD will soon have a new police chief. For the first time, a woman will be leading the force. News 8 sat down with Deputy Chief Tanya Terry as she prepares to step into this new role.

“I just found out the news. So, I’m still trying to evaluate and look into next steps,” said Terry.

Wednesday, Mayor Joe Hogsett announced that he is appointing Tanya Terry to the top job with IMPD. Terry calls it a whirlwind.

“I’m incredibly humbled and honored that I would be considered in such a great caliber of people,” Terry said.
