INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Martin University in Indianapolis will pause its operations at the end of the current semester, the Board of Trustees announced Tuesday.
The decision comes as the university faces significant financial difficulties and a decrease in student enrollment, which have made it challenging to maintain its current operations. The university has no endowment to support its financial needs.
“Martin University’s primary focus has always been on providing its students with an outstanding education and hiring the most qualified and talented faculty and staff possible,” Board of Trustees Chairman Joseph Perkins said in a release.
News 8’s Melea VanOstrand spoke to students studying psychology who are supposed to graduate in May. They tell say they’re shocked, saddened and deeply concerned about their futures.
“It’s going to affect me drastically, because if there’s no way to fix our outcome for us so we can continue to graduate, therefore we will have to apply to other schools, or we will have to complete this program most schools, they’re going to want you to follow their own prerequisites,” said student Sasha Townsend.
