INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Spring isn’t in the air just yet, but it is making an early arrival at Newfields.

Orchids are officially back at Newfields for the first time since 2021, giving guests time to recover from the winter blues.

The display in the Madeline F. Elder Greenhouse will wow with over 15 fabulous orchid displays. It’s set to run from Friday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, March 15.

Ian Wilhite, senior horticulturist and orchid specialist at the museum, says the orchids are a wonderful way to show the public Newfields’ impressive living plant collection.

There will be 15 tropical displays, each one is designed by the Newfields Greenhouse team. Four of the displays include descriptions of pieces from the Indianapolis Museum of Art Collection that inspired the Orchid design.

The Orchid display is included in your general admission ticket. Newfields will also offer several different Orchid-related classes, listed below.

  • Thursday, Feb. 19: Greenhouse Class: Mini Orchid Bowls; $75 Members & $85 public.
