Person fatally shot at Indianapolis apartments off West 38th Street

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A person died Tuesday evening after a shooting at an apartment complex on the west side of Indianapolis, police say.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a disturbance with a weapon in the 7200 block of Hatteras Lane. It’s off West 38th Street just west of the I-465 interchange, near Eagle Creek Airpark.

Marion County property records list the address as being part of Astoria Park Apartments.

Sgt. Amanda Hibschman of IMPD said in a media notification about an hour after the shooting that the person had died. Initially, the person was listed as being in critical condition.

It was not immediately known what led to the shooting, if there are any suspects, or whether the area is safe. IMPD was planning to provide additional details later.
