Road to be named ‘Bob Knight Memorial Way’ near Assembly Hall

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — State Road 45 in Bloomington between College Avenue and Fee Lane is being renamed “Bob Knight Memorial Way.”

A resolution passed the Indiana state legislature unanimously for the road to be renamed.

Knight was a legendary head coach at IU, where he won three national championships and 11 Big Ten championships.

Knight had a 659-242 record in his time in Bloomington. He coached the Hoosiers from 1971-2000.

Knight died on November 1, 2023.

Knight was the head coach of the 1975-76 IU team that went 32-0 and won the national championship, the last undefeated team in Division 1 college basketball. The ’76 Hoosiers team is being honored at halftime of IU’s matchup against Oregon on Monday for the 50th anniversary of the team. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
